Mumbai, Oct 29 (TruthDive): Karan Johar’s movie SOTY – Student Of The Year now stands at a domestic box office collection of 52.45 crores in its second weekend, says koimoi.com. Also, it is remarkable to see a movie with all new comers making it to 50 crores nett and it is the most recent movie to enter into the league of fastest 50 crore grosser of 2012, completing its task in just 9 days.
Student of the Year hit the screens on Friday, October 19 in over 1,400 screens all over the country. The movie saw 100% occupancy in multiplexes and single screens on its opening day. Positive word from the viewers raised the collection up in the following days.
As per reports given out by Boxoffice capsule.com, the movie collected 04.50 cr on Monday, 04.50 cr on Tuesday, 06.00 cr on Wednesday, 03.75 cr on Thursday, 02.10 cr on Friday, 03.25 cr on Saturday and 04.75 cr on Sunday.
SOTY’s business came down by 50% on the weekdays, but the collection looked decent when it is compared to many big releases of 2012. The Dussehra holidays were a great advantage for box office collection of the movie. According to box office estimates, Student of the Year is likely to do over Rs 60 crore business.
It seems well-designed promotional campaign gave a huge boost to Student Of The Year. Karan Johar has sure provided an excellent platform for the 3 new comers, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra.
When compared to the other previous releases like “Bhoot returns” and “Aiyyaa”, “SOTY” is doing much better and is expected to remain the first choice of movie-goers. Other new releases like “Chakravyuh”, “Ajab Gazaab Love” and “Rush” opened to a dull start at domestic box office.
As these recent releases have not done well at box office, SOTY, directed by Karan Johar and produced by Gauri Khan and Hiroo Yash Johar, is likely to continue its good showing till Diwali.
