Badlapur, much-awaited movie of Varun Dhawan hit the screens today! Will director Sriram Raghavan and Varun Dhawan combo work? Let’s wait and watch. Read the review of Badlapur…
Cast: Varun Dhawan, Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte and Divya Dutta Director: Sriram Raghavan
Badlapur Plot:
Raghav alias Raghu (Varun Dhawan) witnesses his wife (Yami Gautam) and son being killed by goons during a robbery. He is a man of past and 15 years later, Raghu gets to know who pulled the trigger to kill his family. The journey of revenge and blood bath begins…
The random African proverb “the axe forgets, the tree remembers” flashes on the screen and that pretty much sums up the essence of Badlapur.
‘The axe’ in the film is a pair of seemingly amateur bank robbers Laik (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and Harman (Vinay Pathak); and the tree is Varun Dhawan. The speed in which they kill Misha (Yami) and her son makes audience wonder, Laik gets caught and is sentence to 20 years in prison.
However, he never gives away the identity of his partner, who manages to escape from the cops. The wounded Raghu, who’s trapped in his thirst for vendetta begins his revenge saga.
All he dreams about is how to trap the villains. Raghu’s transformation from a carefree personality to a sinister widower is portrayed very well. Will you sympathise with the manipulative Raghu or the petty orphaned criminal Laik?
Varun Dhawan is seen in a totally different and serious avatar for the first time. He has come out of his chocolate boy image and romance genre movies like his earlier Student of the Year, Humpty Shama ki Dulhania and Mein Tera Hero. Badlapur revolves totally around Varun Dhawan. He has shouldered the responsibility which has been given really well.
Yami Gautam who plays Varun’s wife, although has not got too much of screen time, has performed her character well. On-screen chemistry between Varun and Yami have worked well.
She is shining in her character as well. The lip-lock scene between Divya Dutta and Varun Dhawan which was hyped a lot has not been added for the sake. Divya Dutta and Radhika Apte have done justice to their roles which play really important in the film.
Nawzuddin Siddiqui, the anatagonist, has showed his villainous streak one notch higher in Badlapur. He brings out that feeling of hatred in the audience with the way he has acted. Badlapur, revenge saga, has been directed well by Sriram Raghavan with right amount of love, music and drama. Overall the performances by all actors is like they have surrendered to their characters.
Badlapur Movie Technicalities: Pooja Ladha Surti’s editing is very crisp.
Screenplay by director’s younger brother Shridar Raghavan is just astounding. Soundtrack of the film is composed entirely by Sachin-Jigar, while the lyrics are penned by Dinesh Vijan and Priya Saraiya. Music is already a huge hit and it stays fresh in the minds too.
Badlapur is a revenge drama full of blood bath which marks the new beginning for Varun Dhawan in Bollywood industry. Don’t miss to watch this in big screen if you are 18 years and above.
