In the second half, the director takes you into a different world altogether. From a familiar urban setting to a small village in Gujarat filled with innocence and old-world charm. Just as the pace begins to slacken, Anupam Kher makes an appearance as the collector of the Jhumi village and entertains with his brilliance.

Gori Tere Pyar Mein is not even a slapstick comedy film that Bollywood filmmakers are churning out every alternate week. At least those films are paisa vassol, but in this film not only does the story take a backseat, but the humour element is also missing. While efforts have been made to provoke laughter, but they fail to tickle our funny bones. What adds to the misery is that there is hardly any scene in the romantic film where you will feel love between Kareena Kapoor and Imran. The two are seen fighting with each other throughout the film. Too many songs and slow pace of the movie are other drawbacks of the film.

All in all, the story is weak. Direction is poor too. Had Puneet stuck to a different kind of film perhaps, one that catered more to generation Z's rich tastes, then that film would've definitely fared better. Vishal-Shekhar have composed the music in the film, and when heard otherwise, the songs seem nice.

Punit does an about-turn in the second half, venturing into an unmarked terrain -- a hamlet in Gujarat. The writing has its highs and lows in this hour; it's absorbing at times, but not making much of an impact intermittently. The voyage to the culmination, which should've ideally been the icing on the cake, is erratic, although the film is back on track towards the closing moments. However, there's no denying that the noteworthy moments outweigh the blemishes. You exit the auditorium with a feel-good sentiment and a smile on your face.

This is Punit's second attempt at a rom-com and he gets a few things right and a few wrong, making Gori Tere Pyaar Mein an average entertainer.

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is two hours and 28 minutes long and follows a non-linear narrative. This was absolutely unneeded. Despite all the flashbacks, the story was predictable and the first half could have been cut down significantly. This film is a case of shoddy editing, writing and direction.

Punit Malhotra did alright with his easygoing, easily forgotten 'I Hate Luv Storys'. Imran is quite the same here, not holding anything sacred or dear in that very with-it cool way and then letting loose on what he really thinks about fellow rich kids like him but with bleeding hearts. However Malhotra aims to be different without a difference here and his core audience suitably placated, he rambles onto that village and its – you guessed it – very 'Lagaan' ending.

The story of the film is as little as the synopsis or even the tagline could've sufficed for the actual story of the film but the second time director Punit Malhotra stretches it to 2hours and more adding banal plots and sequences to add weight to his script

The film does not offer you anything new or fresh in terms of story but its lead actors still succeed in holding your attention. Imran and Kareena's chemistry in the first half is a bit weak. You find that both of them are trying hard. On the other hand Imran's scenes with Shraddha Kapoor are effortless, easy and organic.  The second half which is a long struggle to build the Raseela Devi bridge in the village stretches a bit too much for a comparatively small bridge they are trying to build though the obstacles that come in the way of building the damn bridge appear true-to-life in this otherwise not-so-serious film.

Films like GTPM are best enjoyed without the expectation of cinematic excellence. Nine out of ten developments in the narrative bypass logic. There are songs nineteen to the dozen. Great actors like Anupam Kher feature in run-of-the-mill funny bad guy roles. You might even be cheeky and say this movie is a frivolous little romance with the idea of filmmaking. But the bottom line is that it works. And you don't need reasons to smile.

Although Imran Khan has more screen moments in ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ than Kareena Kapoor does, he fails in making an impact. Had it not been for the story, the film would have been a complete letdown. Kareena, on her part, dances well, looks stunning, and even acts well. But we have seen her doing that in other films also and we have also seen her doing better roles.

Director Punit Malhotra and his co-writer Arshad Syed operate with minimum script that barely holds any surprise. The idea would still click if there were the magic moments to trigger off chemistry between the lead pair. You hardly spot any. For a rom-com, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! runs low on the 'rom' quotient, still lower on the 'com' factor.

The Times Of India - Madhureeta Mukherjee

Punit's 'GTPM', is a sweet, breezy romcom with likeable characters presented in glossy, lavish, true Karan Johar (producer) style. In the second half, the 'the bridge over troubled waters' project is a bit stretched, and you wish the gaonwallahs would leave the pair to romance instead. Music (Vishal-Shekhar) is peppy and pleasing.

Sadly, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is supposed to be a rom-com, but it’s not. It’s supposed to have peppy dance numbers, but it doesn’t. It’s supposed to have some stellar performances by Imran and Kareena, but it doesn’t.
