The trailers of Besharam disappointed a majority of the audience and the film doesn’t surprise us, unlike what Ranbir Kapoor was hoping for. It is overlong and unfunny and Ranbir Kapoor shows he can also ham it up if need be. Besharam could have done away with the lazy writing and the conceptualisation of the set-pieces could have done with a lot more imagination. Besharam disappoints and how!

It has no story worth the name, and its oddball characters are facile caricatures that turn more and more bizarre as they hurtle towards a protracted and action-packed climax that turns out to be far and away the most enjoyable part of the film.

Like most masalathons, the premise of BESHARAM is simplistic, but the real test lies in padding the screenplay with gags, punches and moments that would keep you completely enamoured in those 2.20 hours. While BESHARAM does have moments that can be termed pleasurable, the consistency is clearly missing. These moments are sporadic, coming up intermittently, but what takes you by complete surprise is the crude humor that's integrated in the narrative. I mean, one doesn't mind the toilet humor as long as the situation warrants it, but it seems completely forced in this film.

Performances are not bad. Ranbir is charming and honest. Rishi and Neetu Kapoor do their fair bit. Pallavi Sharda as RK's love interest is not bad but again, has very little to do. All the actors are simply wasted as the plot doesn't give them any scope to entertain.

Ranbir’s performance is adequately uninhibited and, admittedly, modelled around Mike Myers' Austin Powers.  But he fails to make us care forget root for Babli or warm up to his Besharmi. Of his parents, playing a husband-wife pair of bantering, crooked Delhi cops, Neetu Kapoor is distressingly raucous while tubby hubby Rishi Kapoor takes off on Sunny Deol’s roaring frenzy in a scene that seems to have slipped out of Rohit Shetty’s imagination.

Besharam is filled with gross moments that will make you gag on the Pepsi or pop corn that you may have bought to while away your time through this 138 minutes of nonsensical ordeal. The movie tries way too hard to step into the masala zone and only ends up being a 'wannabe' attempt.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Zeenews - Aparna Mudi

The first half of the movie is rather floppy, but the second half of the movie picks up the plot. But the climax is worth watching. Rishi, Neetu and Ranbir fight side by side; Rishi Kapoor takes the centre stage and you realise Kashyap probably made the movie only for this scene.

There is a lot of mismatch in Besharam. The leading man and leading lady together look odd and lack chemistry.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By India Today - Suhani Singh

Ranbir's earnest performance alone can't rescue a film which has a wafer-thin story and where the structure is predictable. It goes like this: a song, a scene with Chulbul and Bulbul Pandey, some banter between Babli and Tara, a scene with Babli and his

Scratch that. 'Besharam' is not a film. It is Bollywood's brightest young star stooping to conquer, in search of the mass market. There is no motif in the film other than making Ranbir the new Salman. But why do that when we already have a Salman?

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Bollywood Life - Shweta Parande

Besharam is not as bad as some of the trashy films we see come out of B-town, but frankly, for the three hours that you would spend inside the theatre and also spend exorbitantly on popcorn and cola, you expect to be entertained a little more – and in a different way than the same old stuff.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By India Today - Faheem Ruhani

Towards the climax he displays that he can perform exceedingly well in the action scenes as well. Ranbir proves that he is dabangg, a rockstar and besharam. Interestingly, there were kids in the audience when we watched it. Does this mean vulgar is the new family entertainer? Perhaps not so besharam after all! We didn't cringe.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Filmfare - Rachit Gupta

The director has tried his level best at sneaking in movie references and in-jokes, at celebrating his star cast and at creating a light-hearted movie. But his best efforts aren’t good enough. Besharam is a seriously underwhelming film. It isn’t close to being as much fun as the director’s last offering. It’s not at par with what we have come to associate with Ranbir.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Mumbai Mirror - Karan Anshuman

Abhinav Singh Kashyap's nonchalant direction fails to deliver any highs. The opening scene is harsh and serious - villain Javed Jaffrey murders a bunch of cops to flaunt his street cred. The story doesn't come back to him until the second half and by this time he's merely a caricature of his own original character! Meanwhile, a bunch of songs have interspersed the narrative that revolves around RK trying to get the girl who continually spurns him.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Sify - Sonia Chopra

Abhinav Kashyap (Dabangg) gives us a film that’s humourless, sexist, and riddled with what seems like innumerable songs. It’s honestly difficult to respect filmmakers and actors who play along with such regressive cinema even now. Disappointing. Sorely disappointing.

Besharam which could have been a dream debut for debutant Pallavi Sharda, could turn out to be a nightmare. Audience expects a deadly chemistry when an actress is paired opposite the most romantic actor of his age. But there is no chemistry at all between Pallavi and Ranbir.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By ApunKaChoice - Naresh Kumar Deoshi

Ranbir Kapoor pitches himself headlong into crassness and delivers a performance that all but glosses over a trashy film. Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor chip in a few droll moments, but it’s the film’s leading lady Pallavi Sharda who’s splendidly miscast and fails to deliver a performance to make one sit up and take notice.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By The Times Of India - Madhureeta Mukherjee

Ranbir's role may not be path-breaking, yet he's in full control. He plays a riotous rowdy with utter confidence; using gags padded (stuffing his crotch with socks - even men need 'enhancement', no?), with humour that's corny and horny. Ranbir is shamelessly, stylishly superb! If comic cracks weren't enough, watch out ladies - there's a real one, a flashed 'butt-crack' by RK!

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By IBNLive - Rajeev Masand

Directed by Dabangg's Abhinav Singh Kashyap, 'Besharam' is the kind of joyless film that compels you to wonder if a fat paycheck can sometimes be the only incentive for talented people to go to work.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Indiaglitz - Vishal Verma

Ranbir Kapoor is deliciously voila, completely in command and entertainingly corny to the core in 'Besharam' which is otherwise a very average effort as a film by Abhinav Kashyap.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Hindustan Times - Sarit Ray

The harebrained story is just an excuse for the much-promised shamelessness. Yet, here too, Kashyap seems unsure if he wants to pander to conservative sensibilities or offend them. The romance between the lead pair is restricted to tepid kisses on the forehead, though Ranbir’s butt crack gets to make its Bollywood debut.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Deccan Chronicle - Khalid Mohamed

Riding completely on the charm of the Besharam boy, Abhinav Singh Kashyap steps back to permit him to dominate the show. Wise move. Because there’s no story, logic or cinematic flourishes in the writer-director’s armoury. Instead, here’s a Ranbir Kapoor show, an actor who makes magic of the hoariest of cliches. And the fact that he’s supported by Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, elevates the project beyond the ordinary. Clearly, the R K trio is in form, adding salt-‘n’-pepper to a screenplay which could have otherwise been blander than boiled turnips.

Then again, maybe the blame should be reserved for the writing department. I sat there feeling pretty much insulted that the makers thought this would go down as story/characters/dialogue for us, as an audience. It's not only the predictability of how the different worlds of Mr. Besharam's personality come together or the lack of a peak point. It is as much the feeling that minimum effort was put into thinking about these attributes. Even the action sequences and songs are rather generic.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Glamsham - Martin D'Souza

Nothing works in the movie. Not even Ranbir [who salvaged ROCKSTAR to an extent] is able to change the fortunes of this script that goes from bad to worse and then even worse.

Besharam Movie Reviews Recommended By Mid-Day India - Shubha Shetty-Saha

What happens when the lollypop loving ‘shameless’ hero meets the nail-filer holding villain with a constipated body language? No, don’t expect this to be anywhere close to the dhamaka that happened when the director of this film, Abhinav Kashyap met Salman Khan for his first film, 'Dabangg'. This film by Kashyap is more like a whimper that sometimes follows an explosion of a firecracker.
