As a film, D-Day is a marked improvement over all of Nikhil Advani’s previous films. He has come a long way since Kal Ho Naa Ho. D-Day is entertaining, realistic and slyly patriotic. Even though it does suffer from a few niggling loopholes and logical inconsistencies, the effort to do something new and credible is sincere. It definitely deserves to be seen.

D-DAY tackles a knotty issue and it's imperative that Nikhil stays close to authenticity. The demanding plot and the edgy, gritty and raw situations, besides the ambience [recreating Karachi], makes this espionage thriller so different from the gangster films we have witnessed on the Hindi screen thus far. The four patriots, each with a back story, joining hands for a common mission, their expedition and how the hunters become the hunted in the neighbouring country gives the film that edge and power that's hard to expunge from memory.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Koimoi - Mohar Basu
Nikhil Advani’s D-Day is by far one of the India’s most applausive high octave action films, which has a charming rendition in terms of an emotional plot. Appealing performances and the menacing story makes for decadent palette.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By NDTVMovies - Saibal Chatterjee
To be fair, there is indeed much going for D-Day. The film is completely fictional, but it stays rooted in the geopolitical reality of the subcontinent, allowing itself only the occasional shot at dramatic license in order to buoy up the narrative.

But this being Bollywood, the plot can't escape emotional excursions. Some - Rudra's love-life, Zoya's break-up - adds a halwa-like heaviness to this Karachi. But the second half refreshes your palate, sizzling sequences between Wali, Rudra and Iqbal Seth leaving you open-mouthed, the 'c' in this climax clearly for controversy.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Rediff - Paloma Sharma
The film follows an unconventional story and stars an unconventional cast, including Huma Qureshi, Irrfan Khan, Arjun Rampal, Rishi Kapoor, Shruti Hassan and Akaash Dahiya, which works for it better than any star-studded ensemble could have.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Nowrunning - Mansha Rastogi
Had it not been for a jingoistic speech towards the end and the highly melodramatic familial sagas of each and every character along with predictable turn of events, D-Day could have been a flawless nail-biting thriller which it was throughout the first half. But despite its flaws, the movie still deserves a watch.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By ApunKaChoice - Subhash K. Jha
The love story could have been the entire script of Advani's film. But "D-Day" -- odd title since the antagonist is no more named Dawood -- has a lot more to say, and it says it with in a tone of unfussy enrapturing elan that invites us into its midst without using gimmicky methods of enticement.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Bollywood Life - Dhiren Trivedi
Overall, D-Day is well-made. The script and screenplay is terrific. Tusshar Ray’s cinematography is innovative and Tom Struthers’ (of Inception and Dark Knight fame) realistic action sequences are A-grade. Clean editing makes the film crisp. The last 15 minutes is an adrenaline rush as all the drama unfolds.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By India Today - India Today
D-Day gets lost in revealing the complex lives of professional criminals and their soft sides and if we speak in critics' lingo, the film gets stuck at two or two and a half stars. This film is for them who love to see high octave filmy-style action and bravery of Indians in Pakistan. But if you are a fan of English movies, this film will come across as a cocktail of some old action films.

Nikhil Advani falls prey to the push and pull of artistic excellence and commercial cinema.. D-Day has all the opportunity to make Nikhil Advani have a cinematic statement but he sticks to the popular and massy route where the abduction of India's most wanted is at the utmost importance no matter if it comes without any layers, depth and cinematic intelligence.. still the length could have been trimmed for at least 10 minutes or so..
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Glamsham - Martin D'Souza
The downside is just seven minutes, where Advani loses a slight grip on the narrative in the second half. That is the only fear when a script goes back and forth. But he immediately gains control to deliver a killer punch in the end.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Zeenews - Gayatri Sankar
Featuring top notch actors, the spy thriller comes across as a breath of fresh air. Advani takes the art of story telling to an altogether different high. And yes, succeeds brilliantly.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Sify - Sonia Chopra
The film could have followed a straight narrative, but adopts the non-linear style, going back and forth in time to look cool. This causes you to revisit some scenes unnecessarily and you tend to get a bit lost in the middle.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By DNA India - Sarita Tanwar
The problem is the one that most Hindi films have. The length. You keep thinking to yourself, it only it was twenty minutes shorter. Parts of the film are dragged out and at one point, post-interval, you begin to wonder if the writers forgot that the film was about Iqbal and not about the personal life of one sp. Sometimes when people get caught up with reciting a story they lose sight of what the story is.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Mumbai Mirror - Karan Anshuman
The first half is slightly stretched (a subconscious connection made when Goldman intones with a gun to head "Trigger kheech, maamla mat kheech") but it is offset by the characters' helplessness evoking an unsettling feeling in the second half. There were at least three critical plot coincidences that should've been explained better but this can't be held against the film. Hollywood pulls the rug under the table all the time and I think we tend to over scrutinize such details under a microscope when it comes to Bollywood.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Mid-Day India - Shubha Shetty-Saha
Irrfan is brilliant as he veers with ease from being a determined agent to a helplessly desperate father and husband. Huma Qureshi and Aakash Dahliya play their part to perfection, but it is Arjun Rampal as Rudra who amazes with a performance that is undoubtedly his best till date. Rampal, apart from looking as gorgeous as he does, comfortably displays a range of emotions with surprising deft.

In this fast-paced action thriller, Nikhil Advani creates moments that remain etched in memory. There is a scene when Rudra exacts revenge for the ghastly scar on a beautiful prostitute’s (Shruti Haasan) face. The way water pours down his face in slow motion when he is washing off the blood is symbolic of the way gods are anointed with milk in India.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By IBNLive - Rajeev Masand
'D-Day' is far from perfect, but as pulpy Bollywood action films go, it's very watchable and works its strengths. The film's ending, controversial and melodramatic to say the least, nevertheless sits comfortably with the wish-fulfilment fantasy that Advani's milking. I'm going with three out of five. It's worth a watch; you won't be bored.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Indian Express - Shalini Langer
As is the curse of such films, having set up the story nicely, particularly after their plans get botched up and the Indian agents are driven into hiding and certain death in Karachi, the screenplay -- the credits include Ritesh Shah and Suresh Nair -- falls back upon tested heroism and dramatics.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Hindustan Times - Sarit Ray
Yet, Advani shows command over the genre in D-Day. The action is slick, the settings credible and the cinematography impressive (DOP Tushar Kanti Ray also shot Dhobi Ghat and Shor In The City). And till halfway point, the film is thoroughly gripping. Post that, however, the story unravels so fantastically, it demands tremendous suspension of disbelief.
D-Day Movie Reviews Recommended By Bollyspice - Kiran Devgun
D-Day does, however, come with some minor flaws. Some scenes of the film are rather lengthy and you can sometimes almost predict how the scene will end quite early on. Whilst some scenes are just as thrilling as they are exciting to watch, the interval did not pause the film on such a note, which I think was very much needed.
