Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Indicine -Indicine Team
The intentions of Aanand L Rai seem genuine. He wants to show us the world where he grew up in, wants to romanticize the feeling of nostalgia and unrequited love. But where he falters in, is when he gets out of this zone and tackles issues like revolution and student politics. He undoes the damage a bit with an unpredictable climax that hits you hard.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Bollywood Hungama - Taran Adarsh
Dhanush, who makes his Hindi film debut with RAANJHANAA, is simply outstanding. To state that he's the mainstay of the film would be most appropriate. You take back his innocence, his dedication for his beloved, his emotions as you exit the auditorium. Here's a performance that deserves an ovation! The actor in Sonam was waiting for a role that would make the spectator sit up and notice it and the one in RAANJHANAA gives her that opportunity. The headstrong and emotional persona comes across so well in this film. In addition, like DELHI 6, she's devoid of makeup and that makes the character so appealing. This film is a huge leap frontward for Sonam as an actor. Abhay Deol is understated, but effectual in a special appearance. It's a superior act, something you've come to expect from the talented actor.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By The Times Of India -Meena Iyer
And around this time, the chinks in the script also show. All of a sudden, Raanjhanaa seems like two different films. In the first half, it is an interesting, intense, introspective love story, where you empathise with the characters. In the second half, the love story gets diluted to make way for gobbledygook political ideology that is an irritant.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Koimoi - Mohar Basu
Handling a fractured script, Anand Rai has his focus misplaced. A clear lack of believable novelty in the film post-interval, the narrative ends up being unnecessarily complicated and unjustified. The salvage point is in the antics that surface up enough in the film’s first half.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Rediff - Sukanya Verma
In reality as opposed to movies, people are changeable, making their mind, prone to think differently at different junctures, Raanjhanaa’s protagonists embody this impermanence and that’s what makes it unpredictable, startling. What I disliked: For all its romantic zeal, Raanjhanaa treats its women rather roughly.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By DNA India -Tushar Joshi
Aanand Rai's Banaras comes alive with Rahman's slow yet melodious tunes and some amazing camera work.
We wish he had stuck to the feel and ethos of the first half and let that flow into the climax. Instead the storyline takes a nosedive post interval like a jet running out of fuel.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Glamsham - Martin D'Souza
Overall, RAANJHANAA is a poetic journey for a film lover. Right from its opening approach, performances from the lead actors, the supporting cast, the music and the manner in which the story unfolds... it's is magical. The dialogues require special mention: hard-hitting, yet laced with a heavy dose of light humour.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Nowrunning - Mansha Rastogi
Aanand L Rai's true strength comes in the casting where he scores an ace by roping in Dhanush for a part that could be played by him and him alone. It's his portrayal and the age-span that he convincingly plays showcases his caliber and re-establishes the reason why he is a superstar down South. Sonam Kapoor who has till now been criticised for her acting too displayes her talent and complements Dhanush well. Abhay Deol in little cameo too is very effective.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Zeenews - Resham Sengar
Performance wise, expect nothing but a good show from everyone in the film. In his title role, Dhanush exudes excellence whenever he appears on the screen. Not with the kind of looks that a Bollywood hero is expected to have, Dhanush has hit the bull’s eye and that too as a romantic hero in his Hindi debut – all thanks to his acting finesse. He has reiterated the fact that a good actor is not at the mercy of good looks. To sum it up, this `Raanjhanaa` is charmer.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Indian Express - Shubhra Gupta
The playfulness and intensity that Dhanush, making his Bollywood debut, exhibits consistently is what keeps the film ticking. His complete surrender to the role leads to the kind of unselfconsciousness that is so absent in Bollywood newbies who try playing lovers: if you want to show me your perfect abs, how will you let yourself screw up your face while crying for your mehbooba? And that is what makes Dhanush, who is familiar to north Indian audience only through the chartbuster Kolaveri Di, so believable.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Sify - Sonia Chopra
The film has dialogue and scenes that will stay with you. After debating with herself, this writer has chosen to give you an insight into one of the film's best scenes. This is where a character is climbing the building's pipes to meet his beloved. When caught by the student political party, he says he's a thief.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Deccan Chronicle - Khalid Mohamed
Like most Bollywood films, the first-half is fairly smooth and lovey-dovey. Post-intermission, there’s a U-turn to the political side of campus life, reminiscent of Prakash Jha’s 'Rajneeti' capers. The ideology proposed by the director and writer is surfacial when it isn’t cloudy.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Indiaglitz - Vishal Verma
The confidence by which Aanand Rai takes the movie to an unconventional route deserves high praise..Himanshu again supports the cause of his director and we get a pulsating climax which knocks you out of the blue and Vow!! What a way to end.. real Ashiqui.. must say..
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Bollywood Life - Deboshree Ghosh
While the first half is all gloss and show the dreamy world of love and passion set against the backdrop of Benares, the second half is drenched in inspiring youth oriented politics set in streets thronging with rallies that wind through Delhi. Watch it for the super artiste Dhanush and also for Sonam’s rising acting graph – which has definitely reached an impressive point – and, of course, for Rai’s unconventional and moving storytelling.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Mumbai Mirror - Karan Anshuman
The excellent writing radiates to masterful direction. Rai's characters are all feisty. Every one of them. They move with purpose, even when they have none. What an incredible, refreshing reading and extension and twist to the Brahmin boy, Muslim girl Bollywood conundrum. And handled with such maturity and grace!
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Mid-Day India - Shubha Shetty-Saha
And then the second half is when the pace dips, the sincerity of the storyline gets somewhat hazy and the film gets wee bit disappointing. An absolutely believable one-sided romance takes a slightly deceptive political drama twist and I am not sure if that is what you wanted it to be. It is unpredictable, yes, but not in a great, believable way.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By India Today - Vinayak Chakravorty
The build-up is exciting over the first hour but the script (Himanshu Sharma) is too feeble post interval. The film totally slumps in the second half.
Dhanush uses to his advantage exactly all that you thought would go against him. His average look and lack of six packs works wonderfully for Kundan. Sonam makes a pretty Zoya and Abhay makes the odd mediocre scene look exceptional with sheer screen presence.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Hindustan Times - Anupama Chopra
The dialogues by Himanshu Sharma are the highlight of the film. The lines are pithy, earthy and wonderfully funny. Snaking his camera through the streets of Benares, director Aanand L Rai creates an intimate and lived milieu. AR Rahman’s music, especially the gorgeous Tum Tak, layers the narrative further.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By NDTVMovies - Saibal Chatterjee
Raanjhanaa gets somewhat weighed down in the second half as it factors into its plot many of the recent people’s protests (anti-corruption, Bhatta Parsaul, the Nirbhaya gang rape) that have rocked Delhi.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Bollyspice - Shalu Dhyani
There is not a single bad performance in Raanjhana. Sonam has never looked more beautiful or acted better. Though she is still one-dimensional as an actor, she brings in the required immaturity to her portrayal of the flighty Zoya. Abhay Deol is likeable though a little low on energy.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Yahoo - Rummana Ahmed
The second half focuses too much on Zoya’s silences, her latent grief and anger that she internalizes and never really vents. Haven’t we dabbled too long on the shades of grey? It would have been great to see the director make a departure from the oft trodden path and have Sonam unapologetically complete her vindication. The climax just falls short of our expectations when it refrains from taking the big leap and instead choses to play it safe.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By ApunKaChoice - Nikhil Kumar
Performances by Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor are simply sterling. Dhanush in his debut Hindi film is simply peerless despite his heavily accented Hindi. Sonam matches him at every step, but looks a bit out of sorts while mouthing her mind about social issues in the second half. Yes, the film packs in several relevant social issues like the farmer’s agitation and protests against corruption and rape in the second half. Though they don’t really fit in the love story, Rai aptly chooses not to dwell on them much.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By Movietalkies - Joginder Tuteja
It would be unfair to pick one actor over another in Raanjhanaa. Dhanush makes a terrific debut in Bollywood with an endearing act that is so controlled, yet impressive. Never going wrong in a single frame, he holds your attention right through this two and a half hours affair. Sonam is a revelation and though she has seen appreciation coming her way in earlier films, this one would stand out as a milestone and her career best till date.
Raanjhanaa Movie Reviews By IBN Live - Rajeev Masand
'Tanu Weds Manu' director Anand Rai exploits the vibrancy of the holy city, and yet gives us a lived-in feel of Benares, rather than taking the typical travel-brochure approach. He banks as much on the unmistakable charm of his leading man to deliver a terrific first hour that breezes by with plenty comic moments and some genuinely heartfelt scenes.
