Mumbai, Apr 26
(TruthDive): Box office collections of Ek Thi Daayan is 25 cr nett plus
in its first week of release, the number much below than the expected
one.
As per the reports released in Boxoffice capsule, the break-up on the first week of release for Ek Thi Daayan is:
Fri – 6.25 cr, Sat – 5.65 cr, Sun – 6.20
cr, Mon – 2.50 cr, Tues – 2.05 cr, Wed – 1.75 cr, Thur – 1.55 cr. So,
the total domestic collection of the movie rounds up to 25.95 crore.
Released on April 19, Ek Thi Daayan is a
Vishal Bhardwaj and Ekta Kapoor co-production and is the story of a
magician and a witch. Directed by Kannan Iyer, Emraan features alongside
three actresses – Huma Qureshi, Konkona Sen Sharma and Kalki Koechlin.
With more urban feel and not in typical
Emraan Hashmi style, the movie took an average start at box office on
its opening day, collecting about 6.25 cr. The collection dropped
shockingly on Saturday. From there onwards, it has been struggling all
over.
The film collected approximately 18
crore in its opening weekend collection. Trade pundits have called the
collection as satisfactory business, keeping the unconventional theme of
the Emraan Hashmi-starrer ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ movie in mind.
Trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted: “‘Ek Thi Daayan’ collected approximately Rs 18.07 crore in its opening weekend.”
In the first week, the occupancy range
for the movie in metros was satisfactory. Anant Verma, director and
business head, DT Cinemas, said that from Friday till Sunday, almost all
the shows of DT Cinema Gurgaon and Delhi were full. The movie has done
better than what they expected it to do and the overall occupancy of the
movie was 75 to 80 percent. Evening shows were almost packed.
On the contrary, the film’s collection
remained below average outside metros which shows the lack of
entertainment quotient, chill factor and absence of hit songs in the
movie.
